Here’s a good trick for easy sleep: ‘R.W.Knudsen’s Just Black Cherry juice’ (in the organic section)
http://www.facebook.com/NutritionFacts.org/posts/421085674574614 (the study, and a good Facebook page to Like for health updates)

Tart cherry juice concentrate increases melatonin so much that it increased sleep duration an average of 25 minutes (http://1.usa.gov/FQNrd6). This may be beneficial for breast cancer prevention as well:

Great to use for going back to sleep if you wake up too early. Sleep hormone melatonin containing I suppose. I’ve been experimenting with it for the past month… Don’t get the tart one, just black cherries crushed (will say in the ingredients). I like to take 6 ounces if I wake up too early and want to go back to bed right away. It’s quality sleep (none of that fake sleep you get from Benadryl, and maybe from what I’ve read online about Ambien that makes you a Fight Club zombie, and I’ve tried melatonin hormone in time-release capsule form after reading it’s benefits and I always felt too groggy waking up — apparently we produce less melatonin as we age). Perhaps the time-release is a mistake to buy.

Beware though, as sometimes you’ll sleep too long with that cherry juice. Feels bad… like you’re melting your cerebellum. Like listening to a Freedomatik song

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DEOj0ZQhCW8

(more on spotify)

I wonder if all of these hormone inducing supplements throw a wrench in the circadian rhythm if abused… perhaps caffeine is also a stressful cortisol, adrenalin pumping problem. But it just makes things so much more in the moment (another page I recommend Liking for health updates) and yeah ლ(ಠ益ಠლ) . I read the elderly need more blue light / sunlight to correct circadian rhythms (the importance of sunlight, and probably a benefit to wake up):

The New York Times reports on a study showing that the aging eye blocks blue light, so that the elderly need more sunlight and blue light to maintain their circadian rhythms and health.

Found on perfecthealthdiet blog — another site recommended.

Marge: Oh, I'm so embarrassed I wish there was a hole I could just
         crawl into and die.
Officer: OK, throw her in the hole.

Marge: Oh, please: it was just a figure of speech!
[Simps Itchy And Scratchyland]

Just got off an online facebook video reading of the great hole mysteries of Amigara Fault. I had a 3-way call setup and the conversation got to talking about careers, and I was immediately reminded of this comic I read last week. It had been haunting me for the past week! (psychologically):

Read it here (click next button at top right for a rather short Japanese-Manga comic that reads right-to-left, top-to-bottom)

Anyway this comic is so short the person I was reading it to found it a great ‘nightcap.’ And you must read it a night. Such a great build-up that will haunt you for weeks (◟ᅇ)◜Strictly psychologically speaking (not jump scare-y).

Found the comic from: “Does anyone remember a super creepy manga that someone posted about a year ago?”

Does anyone remember a super creepy manga that someone posted about a year ago? It was about an earthquake in Japan revealing this cliff face with human silhouettes as tunnels carved into it. They fit specific people perfectly and everyone was compelled to enter their silhouette. Never to be seen from again. This reminds me of that…

It’s much more psychological than horror if think about what really created those silhouettes Be sure to read at night (but don’t dare read this one as it will mess you up no matter how prepared you are).

[Simps]

Heard about this book in a podcast of This Week in Tech where the book was described by BrianBrushwood as “The Bible of Marketing.”

It’s called ‘The 22 Immutable Laws of Marketing: Violate Them at Your Own Risk!‘ from 1993. I’m always fascinated and drawn to how things innately work and how things are just the way they are and always have been. And how these truths are right in front of our nose but must be deciphered and pointed out in such a matter-of-fact way. Don’t deny yourself the pleasure of knowledge (other people’s discoveries). And while this book is not as scientifically tested as other psychology/marketing books Predictably Irrational, or Yes! I found this excerpt in Chapter 3 particularly compelling.

The authors are talking about Xerox attempting to ‘pivot’ into the computer industry (away from their copier brand) and why this failed. But this excerpt really does offer more… more insight on how we always interpret each other based on our own unmovable impressions:

“Remember it is extremely hard to change a mind once she is made up. Xerox was first in copiers and then tried to get into computer business. Twenty-five years and $2 billion later, Xerox is nowhere in computers.

You want to change something in a computer? Just type over or delete the existing material. You want to change something in a mind? Forget it. Once a mind is made up, it rarely, if ever, changes. The single most wasteful thing you can do in marketing is try to change a mind.

If you want to make a big impression on another person, you cannot worm your way and slowly build up an opinion. You have to blast your way into the mind.

The reason you blast instead of worm is that people don’t like to change their minds. Once they perceive you one way, that’s it. They kind of file you away in their minds as a certain kind of person. You cannot become a different person in their minds.”

Wow, people really don’t change. If both are trapped by unconscious, unbreakable impressions the outcome is set in stone. Mmm-mm-m…

Here are some cool stories pulled from the links:

Been surfing a few times after midnight during red tide. Pulling into a close out barrel that’s glowing is FUCKING. RAD.

What isn’t rad, is that you’re out in the ocean after midnight and you can see every swimming bit of sea life but you don’t know what it was. In other words, the stirring of the water is what makes it glow…so as a fish swims…you get to see it under you and hope it wasn’t something lame. Sharks get hungry at night.

I was sailing with some friends to Catalina Island during red tide and it was pitch black with no wind so the ocean was like glass and we were using the motor. Dolphins came and swam next to our boat for almost a half hour making it glow. Pretty cool experience.

¶

I live near the Bay Area in California, and I’ve been out to see these things before. It’s really amazing and kind of surreal. If you walk close enough to the water, your foot prints will light up behind you.

We went waterskiing in it (in New Zealand), totally amazing. it was like a neon light all around because of the wake.

¶

In San Diego, there was a power outage in 2011 that led to a massive outpouring of sewage from waste treatment facilities that, combined with a natural red tide for the year, led to an insanely bright bloom. Of course, my drunken research associates and I decide to go swimming in it in the dead of night (a few weeks after so hopefully the human-specific pathogens had died out, but who knows).

I will never forget how beautiful the ocean became when, after swallowing a mouthful of seawater that mixed poorly with enough booze to stop me walking in a straight line, I vomited into the ocean and surrounded myself with a glow as bright as a spotlight. Those watching from the shore said I looked as bright as day and positively radiant, except for being bent over and wretching my stomach contents into the ocean.

¶

I remember our Biology field trip in senior year to the Bamfield Marine Sciences Centre. It was a pretty amazing trip overall.

Our teacher was dedicated. He loved teaching and loved watching people learn. He fought tooth and nail to approve a trip to drive a bus full of high school kids 1292km (803 miles) to a marine research station so we could see up front what it was like to do research and live a life of science.

After the grueling trip there and a few days of boat tours and general sightseeing we were starting to wind down and prepare for the long trip home. On the second last night the teacher made it very clear that we were not to leave our lodgings under any circumstances. Other nights we were all but left alone in the evening, short of wandering off too far or getting into anything serious. We all assumed that someone had overstepped the boundaries and ruined the freedom for the rest of us. This was not the case

Around midnight he starts going around to each of our dorms and waking everyone up and asking them to come with him for a surprise. Not everyone went, and it was too fucking bad for them. We walked a ways down to the pier once everyone was gathered and ended up on a boat just on the edge of the ocean. We pushed off and went far enough out that the lights of the shore were barely visible. We stopped and dropped anchor and sat for a good 20 minutes while our teacher insisted that we just be silent and absorb our surroundings.

Then he said it was time for the surprise. His words were simple, “lean over the edge and run your hand through the water”. Seemed silly, but at that point most of us were really in the moment. I wasn’t the first to do it, but those who did immediately gasped in amazement. We all followed suit to experience it for ourselves.

It’s hard to describe the sensation and the visualization of running your hand through dark water filled with bio luminescent plankton, but it’s easy to say it was amazing. The water was cool and the air was damp and it almost seemed like you were reaching into a starry sky. There were long periods of silence and short bursts of amazement and discussion.

I’m not sure how long we sat there in that spot running our hands through the water but it felt like we were there all night. The feeling that I had that night has never been reproduced and the memory it created will never be forgotten. I will always remember not only that night but the immense jump in admiration and respect I felt for my teacher for bringing us out on that shitty old boat to witness something we’d never forget.

So in closing, fuck yeah biology and fuck yeah teachers who care

Total Recall (1990). First R-rated movie I saw in theaters. Disturbing moment before the ozone gets turned on with Arnie’s face and can’t forget the part where he throws his on face as abomb and the taxi driver’s uncanny ventrolloquism. Would have been cool for Terminator 1 to be my first R-rated movie (pre cgi! ) Would have made T2 Sarah Connor scenes that much more better in ’92 (T2 is still the best movie ever made).

Sidenote: A lot people were talking about how big Stallone's hands /fingers are.
I believe he supplements with growth hormone and your limbs get huge on that...
look at those with acromegaly and scroll down notice the Arnold-esque jaw, teeth spacing as well.
Just look at daily breakfast skipper (fasting naturally increases growth hormone) mini-Arnold Berkhan's hands in the first pic.

But the pic above just oozes “Dillon you son of b*tch!” [2] [3]

Then I see this Titanic pic today

I completely agree. It’s just a matter of time.

This furthers my belief that female celebrities just plastered on red lipstick in the 90s.

And 2011-12. Apparently that shit came back.

It’s problematic for me that girls wearing red lipstick is about as sexy to me as grandma kisses, which is NOT AT ALL, REDDIT ಠ_ಠ

Leo starred in one my favorite top 3 movies too: The Beach (2000). What fun-filled comes in 3′s will come up next?
It might be weird, but I think about this a lot. I think about what it’ll be like years from now, when I hear that “Brad Pitt died at 75!” or “Christian Bale finally laid to rest, age 82″.

I think about it too. Just the other day I was thinking people like Clint Eastwood or Jack Nicholson may not be around for much longer. It makes me sad just thinking about it.

no worries, in all likelihood you’ll die before they reach that age

I’m 23. Why am I more likely to die before them?

I have no idea if I’m reading that thing correctly or not, but in 2007 I was 18 so it looks like I’ll probably live until I’m 81.

I think it says both Sylvester and Arnold will die at around 78. So I still might win!
