It’s about time!
Releasing tonight! This is so hyped up — people have been waiting 12 years for this sequel! And here we are.
The original StarCraft is legendary –considered the #7 best game ever on the most popular gaming site ‘IGN’ and their top 100 games list. It beat out one my favorite games ever: Street Fighter II at #8, but was beaten by the likes of such games as ‘Tetris’ #3, ‘Zelda’ #2, and ‘Super Mario’ #1. People are still playing SC1 to this day. Based on this fact I would consider SC2 a good 12-year investment (extremely high multiplayer replay value — definitely the game to take if you were stranded in a ‘deserted island’ scenario and could only bring one game– you can get a slickdeal price here –pick the thumbs-up threads). Good to get in on this long awaited sequel early: it’s all about acquainting yourself with the chess-like, psychological multiplayer-mechanics. A good way of getting yourself hyped into Starcraft 2 is to bookmark this site which catalogs all of the top level game replays (w/ professional commentary).
Husky, the pro-replay commentator, the day of SC2 release
I recommend videos by HuskyStarcraft and HDStarcraft — their enthusiasm is unmatched and got me into it (they hit ‘most viewed’ in youtube frequently). And if you do get the game be sure to check out the more technical details on SC-reddit (there is indeed a SC subreddit; I actually read it much more than the actual reddit site) and day9 in-depth, and admittedly, lengthy podcasts. One of my favorite game-casts is when day9 just had his non-professional roommates play a 2v2 game (the most cooperative fun you can have on SC2 — if you play SC2 let’s team up and 2v2!). But if you want to see the most thrilling professional match watch TheLittleOne’s “nuke control” match (playing as the Terran space-marine race) commentated by Husky and HD:
