What a task to have a match against such a great macro-player. I knew I had go straight for iFail and stamp out the best early on. Rush in with reapers (elusive runners) followed up by Banshees (helicopter missiles w/ cloaking). Love to to target every single one of those probe harvesters individually (gotta micro).
To drop a Simpsons reference
That's it... That's it... Come closer... [gobbles a power pellet] Muhahaha! Ironic isn't it. The hunter has become the hunted! Hahahaha!!
You can see me as user ‘shnuggoz’ (in red) and ‘iFail’ (in dark grey). You can always tell a player is good when they choose ‘Random’ as the team they are playing (meaning they nearly mastered all 3 of the team factions). I believe ‘iFail’ is a girl (rare to see on these types of RTS games, or at least they use the Terran female avatar in the profile).
After hours upon hours (perhaps 100+) of playing SC2, and coming across many different SC2 players… user ‘iFail’ created quite an imprint of greatness in my mind — I remember being on her team and totally cleaning house (macro’d up)! I was on her team (iFail is pink, and I am orange)… learning from the best.
Keep in mind this was 50 matches prior to the one above. I like to call this video: “SO MANY BANSHEES” At one point, iFail acquires 22+ Banshees something I never forgot and was quite smitten with:
StarCraft 1 is a 1998 game by Blizzard — creators of World of Warcraft–the most addictive game ever with over 10 million users paying $15/month to play. StarCraft 1 is treated as a sport in the country of South Korea (where tournaments are held in filled stadiums and a TV channel is exclusively dedicated to its gameplay). The high-ranking ‘platinum’ (now called ‘diamond’) players play what can be considered a ‘fast-twitch’ chess match — just click on the most viewed gaming section on youtube (or see this HDStarcraft profile) to see how popular it is and get a live commentary on the depth of what’s going on.
Personally, I remember the game coming out in 7th grade and never giving it a chance (I was always enjoyed the Command&Conquer RTS series and disliked the idea of fighting… in… *spaaaace* – have the same problem with Halo). Now, 12 years later Blizzard releases a sequel (beta version is out now) and is still releasing patches for both SC1 and 2 to constantly fine-tune the gameplay (balance every unit to thwart any excess cheapness like ‘early rush cheapness’ or ‘cheese‘ — there has to be a well dimensioned paper to cover every malformed rock). It’s unheard of for such iterations to be released so late (12 years later) thus I consider the $60 price tag (no subscriptions) a 12 year investment.
You can really feel the adrenal glands pumping out all sorts of fight-or-flight stress hormones (cortisol) in the heat of battle. People have died playing this game. The hype is there. I never get hungry while playing SC2, perhaps the game’s ups-and-downs are mobilizing my body-fat to chew up for energy via hormone adrenaline (future post on this later). And no, I do not think this game is good for your health (the game gets very tense- stay away if you have a heart condition).
Really though, 4v4 matches are epically large and can never be as balanced as the 1v1 matches and so are just one big *gg* gamble.
